All the spells the young people cast don't work (I imagine it improves later: I couldn't get past episode 2 with any true enthusiasm), and they have to turn to their mentor. Unfortunately, the acting is pretty poor, even allowing that it's a silly sorcerer's-apprentice type magical series. It seems the writing was purposely scripted for those 12 and under. Confusion and chaos when the human being gets involved. The Premise is typical: human see something they're not supposed to, and that, is, of course, magical beings. As with Stargirl, it feels odd giving a light, fun kids show a 10/10, but you know what? It deserves it! I just hope they can keep up this quality with series 2. The characters in the show are the kind you would want your children to watch, because they are upstanding, good, moral characters that are great examples for them to see and emulate. Instead, she is a thoughtful young teen, still engaging with friends, still living her life, and has a loving relationship with her father, where they care for each other and grieve together in a natural way. Her stepfather is not a horrible, uncaring bully. She's not moping around wearing dark makeup and pushing away her friends and loved ones. Unlike so much lazy writing, that relies on bad stereotypes, she is not acting out with bad behaviour. Perhaps the best example is the gentle and gradual reveal of the lead's tragic loss of her mother. However, this is not just down to the young actors, but the quality of the writing. Their enthusiasm, sense of adventure, and innocent wonder jump off the screen. The cast of young actors are great, and far outweigh the plastic, over-polished 'child' actors we get from Hollywood. As it is, my other half and I still enjoyed it, but from the perspective of adults being transported back into the fun, innocence and adventure that we used to feel from children's shows back in the 80s and 90s. I found myself thinking that, if I'd seen this as a kid, it would've been one of my favourites. The Bureau of Magical Things progresses and builds surprisingly well, starting with simple, seemingly self-contained stories, which turn out to contribute neatly to an overall story arc and conclusion. Much as when I recently watched Stargirl, I found the characters and writing far superior to most of the supposedly great 'adult' shows being made at the moment. Okay, this is a kids show, but that doesn't mean the writing or characters are any less well written than material for adults.

It does not achieve the same task that the sleep method would accomplish. The setTimeout() method does not hold up execution it executes the next line of the method immediately after the timeout is SET, not after it expires. It is based on your needs and requirements. Some developers will say that there should always be a signal or callback to fire a given functionality other devs will argue that sometimes an arbitrary moment of delay is practical.īut I believe that to each their own one rule can never decide anything in this industry. If you just quickly skim the setTimeout () docs, it seems to take a delay parameter, measured in milliseconds. The infamous sleep, or delay, a method within any language, is constantly debated. In this article, I explain how to use setTimeout (), including how you can use it to make a sleep function that will cause JavaScript to pause execution and wait between successive lines of code. If user input or for APIs that have rate limits, it can be useful. Using the sleep approach, one advantage is that you can reduce the number of HTTP requests and improve the performance of your code. To improve the performance of your web applications, you should consider using the sleep() function on specific scenarios. Sleep is a process control approach that tells your script to wait a specified number of milliseconds before continuing to the next line of code. Why should you use JavaScript’s sleep function? So while it might be nice to have the whole engine wait for a few seconds in this specific case, it is a terrible practice.īut again, it depends on what you are trying to achieve and ensure the application’s performance. The issue here is that JavaScript is a single-thread event-based model language. Instead, it will continue and log the output “Done!” to the console, and when the request returns a couple of hundred milliseconds later, it will output the statements one by one. When the JavaScript interpreter encounters the async function, it will not wait for the request to complete. This is because logging the statements here is an asynchronous operation in JavaScript. That is the way of handling the async code in JavaScript. You see the problem, and the Done is logged first, even if we have written in the last. So, for one second, the function goes to sleep, and after the promise is resolved, it will log the next time the same string, and then again goes to sleep for 1 second, and so on.ĭone! Yello, D'oh Yello, D'oh Yello, D'oh Yello, D'oh The task() function logs the Yello and D’oh values within 1 second. We defined an array list that can help create a loop. The keyword “ await” makes JavaScript wait until that promise settles and returns its result. Before a function, the word “ async” means one simple thing: a function always returns a promise. Here, we used async-await because sleep() will return the promise. In our code, that specific function is the task(). So, we will use the sleep() function in the task() function to sleep. Then, we will call the sleep() function when we need to sleep the specific function. In this example, first, we have defined a sleep function. Java has Thread.sleep(2000), Python has time.sleep(2), Go has time.Sleep(2 * time.Second).Const sleep = (milliseconds) => task() In a programming language like C or PHP, you’d call sleep(2) to make the program halt for 2 seconds. Sometimes you want your function to pause execution for a fixed amount of seconds or milliseconds. Learn how to make your function sleep for a certain amount of time in JavaScript Zen Buddhism, introduced into Japan from China around this time, held a great appeal for many samurai. As Yoritomo’s authority depended on their strength, he went to great lengths to establish and define the samurai’s privileged status no one could call himself a samurai without Yoritomo’s permission. The establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate, a hereditary military dictatorship, shifted all real political power in Japan to the samurai. The triumphant leader Minamoto Yoritomo–half-brother of Yoshitsune, whom he drove into exile–established the center of government at Kamakura. The war ended when one of the most famous samurai heroes in Japanese history, Minamoto Yoshitsune, led his clan to victory against the Taira near the village of Dan-no-ura. The Gempei War (1180-1185) pitted two of these great clans–the dominant Taira and the Minamoto–against each other in a struggle for control of the Japanese state. The word “samurai” roughly translates to “those who serve.” (Another, more general word for a warrior is “bushi,” from which bushido is derived this word lacks the connotations of service to a master.)ĭid you know? The wealth of a samurai in feudal Japan was measured in terms of koku one koku, supposed to be the amount of rice it took to feed one man for a year, was equivalent to around 180 liters.īeginning in the mid-12th century, real political power in Japan shifted gradually away from the emperor and his nobles in Kyoto to the heads of the clans on their large estates in the country. During the Heian Period (794-1185), the samurai were the armed supporters of wealthy landowners–many of whom left the imperial court to seek their own fortunes after being shut out of power by the powerful Fujiwara clan. Freeze at that point, and when you’re ready for it, pop it in the oven. To freeze this, I suggest stopping before you bake it. I suggest a smaller baking dish for easy reheating! Can You Freeze This? In the unlikely event you have leftovers, allow them to cool and put them in a well-sealed container. It might take longer to thicken, but just keep simmering! This combination yields a nice depth of flavor that is similar to Marsala. Nonalcoholic substitution- You can use 1/2 c white grape juice, 1/4 c sherry vinegar, and 1 Tablespoon of vanilla. If you cannot find Marsala, you can use Sherry or Madeira as alternatives. A $10-20 bottle is definitely adequate for making sauces. You don’t have to break the bank for cooking Marsala. This brings a fantastic depth of flavor and is why Marsala is so popular in sauces. Marsala- Marsala is a fortified wine, which means it has brandy added to it. If you can’t find cremini, portobello or button mushrooms will work. Mushrooms- I like cremini mushrooms because they bring more flavor than other types. Slightly bitter winter veggies (broccoli or Brussels sprouts) or greens are a good option to balance the subtle sweetness of the sauce. Serving suggestions – Traditionally you’ll find this with pasta, but it also works over rice or mashed potatoes. You want it to be lightly coating a spoon when it’s all said and done. If you find the sauce too thin after 10 minutes, just cook it a bit longer. If you thicken the sauce too much, add a bit more chicken broth or water for a slightly thinner consistency. Simmer the sauce- The thickness of the sauce can vary a great deal based on the reduction temperature. Scrape and stir vigorously as you add the liquid. The broth and wine lift the bits of chicken and mushroom off the bottom of the pan. It’s critical to ensuring full flavor in your sauce. However, butter burns easily, so be careful not to overdo the heat.ĭeglazing the pan- Do not skip this step. Watch the heat- To get a nice crisp coating on the chicken, you’ll want the butter hot when you put the chicken in the pan. Here are some extra tips on the techniques used! This recipe is very straightforward to make. Top with green onions and cheese and bake. Simmer the sauce until thickened and pour over the chicken. Transfer the cooked chicken to a baking dish and top with the mushrooms.ĭeglaze the pan with the wine and chicken stock. Then, dredge the chicken in flour and cook it in the butter. To make this chicken Lombardy recipe, saute the mushrooms in butter. Once I like the way that this tab looks, I can go ahead and go to other tabs and add in more apps, as well. If there's anything I want to turn off, I can simply exit out, or click on the dropdown and say Remove. So you can see that there's a lot of things that go into this interface, and it's pretty flexible. You also have the ability to access any Help files or Contacts for help from this option, as well. We also have the ability to add more tabs or a new dashboard, right here, as well, the ability to share what we're working on, the ability to see content by just clicking on the Content button, or the ability to look at our communities by clicking on this button for 3DSwym. As we move across the interface, and the dashboard, we can see that we also have the ability to search, we have login and logout information, 3DMessaging options available, a Notification section, which we can turn on and turn off. I'm going to go ahead and X this out, and now you can see that I've got my files all available to me over here, and then my CAD area available to me here. Left mouse button click, hold it down and drag this into my CAD interface, and drop it next to xDesign. So I'm going to go ahead and grab the 3DDrive app. And the two that we really care about, or the three that we really care about, are 3DDrive, 3DSpace and 3DSwym. And you can see all of my options here have changed. So, I'm going to load up now the Social and Collaboration compass. Now, the first part is just having xDesign loaded up so I can access all of my CAD design geometry information and features, but I also need the files. So you can see, this is very flexible, and really lets you customize it any way you want. I can click on 3D again, and drag and drop it in again. If I go, now I accidentally added that to the Community tab, if I want to get rid of that, I simply go to this option over here and say Remove. Now, here I haves my xDesign app loaded in the dashboard. So I'm going to go ahead and hit X on this, come back over here and click on maximize. If we let go, we've now added the xDesign app to this dashboard. If we left-mouse button click, hold that down over that icon, and then just simply drag it over into our interface, you see we get that phantom line, that dashed line that goes around. We've got 3DPlay, which we'll talk about more later, a Global Viewer, and then the SolidWorks xDesign app. So I'm going to go ahead and collapse all of these other things down and just keep open 3DExperience Roles and & Apps, scroll back down again, and you can see here that we've got five different apps available. As we scroll down further, we get to the part that's really interesting to us, and that's our 3D Modeling Apps. I have several, because I'm part of many different programs, but you will generally just have an xDesign profile. So these are the roles that an individual has as they're logged in. And starting from the top down, we see the 3DExperience Marketplaces, which we're going to discuss more later. And you can see that I've got everything expanded. When I do this, it brings out this task bar on the left-hand side. So let's start by clicking on the 3D Modeling App button. We're going to focus mostly on the Social and Collaborative Apps and the 3D Modeling Apps. So starting at the top, we have Social and Collaborative Apps, 3D Apps, Simulation Apps, and Information Intelligence Apps. If I go up to the left, we have the compass here which gives us access to all the widgets and apps that we want to use to add to this. So these are different tabs that are available on the dashboard. And I'm going to put my community stuff in the second tab. So let's say I want to put my CAD in the first tab, and oops, didn't accept that, so CAD. And I can add tabs to it, just by clicking the plus sign. Now, you see when you start, there's nothing here. It's going to be an empty dashboard, and I'm going to call it New xDesign. But let's say that we started with a blank dashboard. Now, if I go over to this drop, then you can see here that I have a dashboard created for Xdesign. Now, in front of you everything that you see on this interface is considered part of the 3DDashboard. Now that we've logged onto the 3DExperience platform, it's important that we understand how the 3DDashboard works. Wilhite, Jr., Royal Heights Productions, McKenzie, Tenn. Review by Pamela Dundas, Wing & A Prayer Players, Southfield, Mich. :) Everyone involved found Narnia a truly worthwhile and often moving experience." Songs are very germane and move the plot along nicely. "It's a lovely little piece that ends up being huge. Review by Bliss Lanier, CYT North Idaho, Dalton Gardens, Idaho The music was an intricate part of the show. Surprisingly to many, was the engaging, beautiful and sometimes haunting music. Four of our performances were for school children to come with their class during school hours as a field trip. We cast 82 children and the word spread quickly about what a wonderful production it was. Narnia the Musical was the first show we ever produced where we SOLD OUT all 12 performances! The public loved it! The story of course is adventuresome displaying a power struggle between good and evil and most importantly, a story of Redemption. Review by Carrie Gruman-Trinkner, Little Wolf High School, Manawa, Wis. Sets can be very simple, or more complex if desired I highly recommend NARNIA." The show is faithful to the source material and the music is beautiful as well as accessible to young voices. It is definitely an audience and cast favorite. "This is the fourth time I have directed this musical (various venues in the past two decades). Our downloadable Logo Pack will make promoting your show a breeze! Notes No livestream rights are available for this title. Narnia wants to sing, and from the excitement of the opening song, "Aslan's on the Move," to the joy of "Narnia (You Can't Imagine)," your spirits will soar with all those in Narnia. And entering Narnia at a moment of high adventure are some children-plucked from our world in unexpected ways to help Narnia and to learn from their Narnia odyssey lessons of courage, unselfishness and wisdom that will help them grow. Though Aslan is often absent from the land (so that his very existence is doubted by some), he returns when the need for him is greatest. The principal inhabitants, however, are the intelligent talking animals ruled by the majestic King Aslan, the great lion of Narnia. The first and most famous story of The Chronicles of Narnia has become a musical presentation of this unique, enchanted world filled with creatures and spirits of myth and fable, both good and evil, demonic and transcendent. If two atoms have an electronegativity difference of more than 1.8, they …Expert Answer. If two atoms have an electronegativity difference between 0.4 and 1.8, they form a polar covalent bond. Often, a compound with both types of bonds contains a metal bonded to an anion of covalently bonded nonmetals. These are ionic compounds that contain polyatomic ions. Some chemical compounds contain both ionic and covalent bonds. Sodium nitrate is a compound with both ionic and covalent bonds.Answer The ions that we have discussed so far are called monatomic ions, that is, they are ions formed from only one atom. Write the symbol for each ion and name them. Predict which forms an anion, which forms a cation, and the charges of each ion. Chemical Formula .Aluminum and chlorine react to form an ionic compound. Then, use the correct naming rules to write the correct names for each compound. The only pure covalent bonds occur between identical atoms.First, identify whether these compounds are ionic or covalent. An ionic bond essentially donates an electron to the other atom participating in the bond, while electrons in a covalent bond are shared equally between the atoms.
